History: Also known as Hale or Cranz Cemetery, this burial ground has had a long history. The original owner of the ground on which the cemetery lies was Erwin J. Hammond. When he sold 150 acres to William Cranz, one-quarter acre was set aside for a cemetery. This was transferred to the Trustees of Bath Township in 1863; another strip of land was added by deed from Othello Hale in 1879. Today, the cemetery covers 0.7 acres.
There are 218 recorded burials in this cemetery, including eleven veterans. The earliest of the veteran burials is that of Jason Hammond, a private in the Connecticut Militia during the Revolutionary War.
Chapter Publications: This cemetery has now been updated and the inscription readings were released in 2009 in the "Bath Township Cemeteries" book, currently available for purchase.
